I wouldn't consider myself a makeup junky. I mean, some girls REALLY live for it. For the past couple years I've developed a bare bones (if you will) routine in the morning. I fill in the eyebrows, curl the lashes (no mascara), put some concealer under my eyes, and swipe on a coat of Equate on the lips (that stuff is a god-send). I read a book about a woman who went to France, and she talked a lot about how women go for the fresh "no makeup" look. I guess that's wear my laziness stems: I like to think I'm being French. :P
But lately I've been admiring women who boldly step out with a bright, perfectly defined lip. (Don't judge the photos below! I don't have lip liner and I was in kind of a rush to take the pictures of all the lipsticks and by the third lipstick, my lips were feeling a little abused). Lipstick adds such a class and air of sophistication that no other type of makeup can compare. A smoky eye is seductive, and long eyelashes are girly, but lipstick almost transcends all of that and takes a woman's appearance - not to mention self-confidence - to a new level.
The colors I bought were: L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Lipstick in Silky Java, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Siren, Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Blissful Berry, and Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor in On Fire Red. I'll talk about each one briefly in the order of the above photo. I'm really digging the L'Oreal Color Riche lipstick. It goes on almost like a balm and is just the right amount of sheer-ness and pink-ness for a nude lipstick (most nudes wash me out because my skin is light tan). It will be perfect for day to day wear when I'm going with my "French natural" look (haha).
Ah...I had such high hopes for Revlon's "Siren" lipstick. I wanted an orange that was not so orange. I don't want to look like a friggin' clown. But I saw this shade on a beauty blogger with a comparable skin tone and thought it looked amazing on her. It's just...so orange. However, all is not lost I think. I'm pretty sure if I water down the color with some Vaseline I can make it into a semi-sheer coral-y/peach color, which was more what I was anticipating to begin with.
I LOVVVVVE the Maybelline lipstick in "Blissful Berry." It was a gorgeous shade - almost like you had eaten too many bing cherries. It is a little dark for spring and summer, but the second the weather cools (heck, if I have any night events to go to) I'm heading straight for this bad boy. My only qualm was that out of all the lipsticks, this one had the hardest/waxiest composition, which made application a bit more difficult. But for this shade, I can make it work. :D (It does leave a really nice-colored stain on your lips if you've wear it for an extended period of time.)
Finally...I have found the perfect red (as far as I know) in Maybelline's Color Sensational Lipstick in "On Fire Red". I have had a lot of heart ache with red lipstick. For the past couple years orange-y reds have been super popular but I seriously cannot do any orange at all. It looks horrific on me. My last attempt was Revlon's matte lipstick in "Really Red," which was as close to true red as I'd come, but even that wasn't quite right. At that point, I was about to pull the trigger on a MAC lipstick (they have a couple with blue in them) when I saw a blogger with my shade of skin wearing this color and I was in love. It was rich, vibrant...ELECTRIC! I knew I had to have it. And it was all I imagined and more! The color is to die for, the sheen is - dare I say - sexy, and the texture is so incredibly rich and moisturizing. Both of my parents commented on the brightness of the color, but they didn't say they didn't like it (believe me, they would've said something had it been otherwise). So for the moment, this is my chosen shade of red.
With these new lipsticks in my arsenal, and also with some new wardrobe additions I hope to maybe change my cosmic mojo. I have a new job, a new goal for college, and possibly a new apartment soon (!!!). I was kind of hoping for some cosmic change particularly in the love department (you hear that, universe?! SEND ME A MAN!!!). It seems almost like my entire life is coming together all at once. It's kind of nice. But I don't want to get too deep. We are talking about makeup after all. Thanks for reading, and see (or rather, write) you again soon!
