One Skirt, Three Ways: ASOS CURVE Exclusive Midi Skirt In Stripe

Hello everyone! I know I've taken (a bit more than) a hiatus - family, work, and school is a heavy burden! But I've found lately that I really miss blogging. It's like therapy for me - I find it very relaxing. :D But enough about that, on to the fashion!

I thought to kick off this reemergence of mine (for as long as it lasts, haha) with another styling post. I had my eye on a vertical striped skirt at Dorothy Perkins a while ago and I was SO CLOSE to buying it when I found it had sold out! I was pretty upset, I'm not going to lie. Since then I had never been able to find similar one; lots of horizontal stripes, but no vertical. Finally, I was browsing the ASOS Curve webpage and jumped when I saw a PLUS-SIZE (!) vertically striped skirt for less than forty bucks!!! I immediately began outfit planning and thought I'd share my favorite looks I came up with you guys!

LOOK-ALIKES: Dolce & Gabbana Jewel and Pearl Embellished Clutch

Hello everyone! I thought since it is the first day of December (and the madness known as "Shopping for the Perfect Holdiay Outfit" has officially begun - or if you're me...began several weeks ago...) I thought I'd do a Look-Alikes post on a fun and glamorous accessory that is essential to any party wardrobe: the embellished clutch.

Now, this first - and exorbitantly priced - bag is curtesy of Dolce & Gabbana, one of my personally favored designers. I've been following this design house religiously since they released their Spring/Summer magazine ads last year. D&G manages to somehow effortlessly capture the spirit and soul of Italy in their prints ads as well as in its runway shows. I love their over-embellished jewelry, and as I later came across, their clutches as well! See below:

Dolce & Gabbana Jewel and Pearl Embellished Clutch, Saks Fifth Avenue, $3,500

I tried finding a live link, but this bag proved somewhat difficult to find online. I'm guessing it's either sold out or one of those things that you can only buy in a brick and mortar store. Anyway, as it usually works with these types of posts, I found the less-expensive version first which reminded me of the more-expensive version.

In this case, it was a clutch found on ASOS by the company River Island (I like their stuff a lot). It is not the cheapest lower-end version I've ever found, but if you compare it to the higher end...I'd say that's a pretty darn good alternative! See below for River Island's clutch:

River Island Gold Embellished Box Clutch, ASOS, $72.60

Even though it's not colorful like the actual D&B clutch, my memory of the D&G print campaign was immediately triggered - the luxe quality of the embellishments with the contrast of geometric and fluid lines. I happen to think this bag alone would take an okay outfit to an amazing one. Definitely a conversation-starter! (P.S - ASOS is having a BIG online sale through monday!)

Well, that's all for now. Hope your Thanksgiving break was amazing and have a great rest of the week!

OOTD: Birthday Suit

Toasted Crackerz: Plus Size Fashion Blog
Earrings, Forever21, OLD (similar here and here)
ASOS CURVE Top with Sequin Hologram Panel, ASOS Curve
Ankle-Length Pants - Plus, JCP
Candie's® Dress Sandals - Juniors, Kohl's (similar here)

I'm going to make this post short and sweet. Today I had a birthday and it was pretty great. I got the day off from work and just lazed about at home for a while. In my family we have the tradition of whoever's birthday it is, they get to pick a restaurant for their birthday meal. Before we left I switched out of my PJ's and threw on this sequin top from ASOS Curve. I've had my eye on it for quite some time but the price was always a little too rich for my blood. Finally it went on sale and I snatched it up knowing I would be wearing it for my birthday. Beware with ASOS Curve sizes! From my experience they run about a size large.

So I picked the AMAZING place, Turtles, (I believe I've mentioned it before on this blog...) so I could get their supernaturally AMAZING macaroni. Scroll down and weep my friends:

Yuuuuuumm......Now THAT is a thing of beauty. Then we all took ourselves home for Cinnabons! I have Cinnabons instead of cake. You know you're jealous. :P I should have taken a picture of those...but I was too eager to eat one. Finally, it was present time. My parents have been buying tons of stuff for my apartment so I understood that was their birthday gift to me. My sister was kind enough to knit me a couple things! She's a really awesome knitter - completely self (and youtube) taught! I thought I'd share one last picture of the present that stole the night:

It's a fox scarf! It's so cute! It looks even cuter when worn. I can't wait for the weather to turn so I can wear this guy out! I'm anticipating some comments from admirers. Well, that's it folks. Hope your night was as fabulous as mine! :D

Pre-Fall Picks for the Plus-Size Girls

I'm sorry everyone for the weird gap I've had recently in blog posts. I've definitely dropped the ball this week! To make it up to you I'm going to upload another post write after this, and I have Sunday's Look-Alikes post all ready to go. Thanks for your patience!

I titled this post "Pre-Fall Picks" because to me it isn't yet fall. Or, at least we haven't had much fall weather here in Eugene yet. However, all the stores have almost all their fall stuff out already - hence, the "Pre-fall." :D

I LOVE fall. Like, seriously, if I could find a place where it was early fall weather (mid-sixties to early seventies), and the trees were always just changing color year-round, I would move there. IMMEDIATELY. Early fall in Oregon is really spectacular. We have so much foliage in the valley (where I live) that it looks like...it's hard to describe. It's just beautiful. Now, I say early fall because mid-fall and right through to the end of spring it rains almost 100% of the time. The rain is nice...until you have to walk a mile to the bus stop in it (I'm currently on the hunt for some wide-calf rain boots)...and it doesn't stop for days on end. I get SAD (as in "seasonal affective disorder" - for those of you who live in sunnier environments) something awful so overcast weather is hard for me to deal with.

Anyway, let's get down to the meat and potatoes of this post: my personal pre-fall favorites for the curvier ladies. I'm so happy with where plus-size fashion is going - there are so many great options! - that it was hard to select just a few. But I was able to whittle it down to nine (...I know that's a weird number. But what can I say? I love an odd number. :P):

LOOK-ALIKES: Gucci 18K Yellow Gold Horsebit Bracelet

Hi, everybody! I would just like to start this post by saying that the DIY Friday segments will be...not going away necessarily, but I just haven't been feeling all that crafty lately. My sister has agreed to guest post whenever she does a project. As for me, I still have that long list of stuff. I'm sure I'll get back to it eventually. While I like the DIY posts, this wasn't meant to be a DIY blog when I created it. So friday posts will either be - er - nonexistent, or I will fill it with some other interesting segment. Thanks for your attention. Moving on.

Wow, these Look-Alikes posts come around so fast it seems! I think I'll keep this one short and simple. It's been a pretty laid-back day. :D This was another completely accidental find. I was reading an article on Refinery29.com about wardrobe classics and saw this bracelet:

Toasted Crackerz: Plus Size Fashion Blog
Gucci 18K Yellow Gold Horsebit Bracelet, Bloomingdales, $7,600 (EEK!!!)

When I first saw the picture, I though, "oh, I didn't think anything trendy from ASOS would make it on the list." You might understand my confusion when you see the picture below:

Toasted Crackerz: Plus Size Fashion Blog
Gogo Philip Linked Stirrup Bracelet, ASOS, (SALE) $23.63

It had been a while since I'd seen the Gogo Philip bracelet and I'll admit it isn't the closest matching Look-Alikes I've ever done, but you have to admit the intention and the inspiration behind the bracelets is uncanny. Message to take away: yes, they aren't an exact copy - but for over $7,500 less than the Gucci bracelet, Gogo Philip's version would make a lovely gift for any American Classic fashionista.

HOWEVER! If you are looking for a slightly more similar look to the Gucci, Gogo Philip has another bracelet on ASOS that would fit the bill (plus it's less than the sale price on the above bracelet). You can find it here. If you like the look of the stirrup but want a more edgy look, Gogo Philip has a mismatched earring set here.

Thanks for stopping by - see you around!

LOOK-ALIKES: ASOS Statement Pharaoh Collar Necklace

Hello, all! Wow, the week really goes fast - I feel like I JUST wrote the Star Wars ASOS dress Look-Alike post yesterday! (I got the dress in the mail yesterday - it's...SPECTACULAR!!!) But onward we must go. This Sunday, I thought I'd get back into the traditional form of this segment and do a high/low Look-Alike. The high-end version is curtesy of ASOS.com (I think I might have an addiction to this place...). It's a statement collar necklace reminiscent of ancient pharaohs of old. And if you haven't caught on by now: I am a die-hard ancient history geek (and I'm not afraid to say it!). Below you'll see a picture:

ASOS Statement Pharaoh Collar Necklace, ASOS, $59.40

So yes...I may have a bit of a Cleopatra fetish - but  I'm sure I'm not the only one!!! Suffice to say, I wouldn't mind having this necklace in my arsenal. I like that it is silver as well. Most statement necklaces on the market now are a ghetto-fabulous gold color (which, don't get me wrong, I love very much), but silver just goes better with certain colors and I've read that my skin-tone looks better with silver anyhow.

But I am reluctant to spend 60 bucks on an extremely trendy piece that I wouldn't anticipate wearing all that often. As far as the cost-per-wear, not a very savvy wardrobe investment choice for my lifestyle. But if you are like me and will do just about anything to make something work for you, may I suggest the below item for all the budget-conscious divas out there:

Silver Look Mix Chain Collar, Dorothy Perkins, (SALE!) $17.00

The similarity is chilling (I've always wanted to say that...in my best CSI: Miami voice impression). It's hard to approximate a size comparison, but if I had to guess I'd say the Dorothy Perkins necklace is a bit smaller. I also must have to say that Dorothy Perkins is rapidly becoming one of my favorite online haunts! It's nice to know that 75-80% of the clothes go up to my size and the stuff available is so on trend. The only downside is that I think a sizable portion of the clothes offered are a little overpriced (which could be due to the british pounds to american dollar conversion). Luckily (or unluckily for me), DP has many, MANY sales throughout the year that make prices much more reasonable.

Anyway, that's all for today my little darlings. It's been a blast - see you soon!

OOTD: Showers of Flowers

Toasted Crackerz: Plus-Size Fashion Blog
ASOS CURVE Swing Dress with Daisy Applique, ASOS, $110.31
Black Gold Metal Stretch Belt, Torrid, $16.50

Can I just stop and say how much I absolutely, positively, limitlessly, LOOOOOVE this dress???!!! Okay, glad I got that out of my system. But seriously, it's fabulous. I feel like a fairy princess when I wear it (don't judge me). The sleeves are long, but they're a bit too long on me, plus it was HOT, so I pushed them up. I wore this to go on an apartment tour. The plan is that I'll be moving into a dorm/apartment hybrid building downtown the day after my birthday, which is a while from now, but I hope to sign a lease soon.

The dress is a trapeze dress, so unless you want to look: a) pregnant or b) like an enormous flowery...I don't know - panda? - you're gonna wanna belt that sucker. I used my new favorite belt from Torrid. I've been looking for a gold bar belt for quite some time. There was a time a while back where it seemed like EVERYONE was wearing them, and I couldn't find one anywhere! But then ASOS Curve had one, and it sold out in every size within a week. So I waited...like a mongoose. :P Finally I saw this one at Torrid and sprang on it (like a mongoose!) not knowing it it too would instantly sell out.  Luckily for all of you ladies it is indeed still in stock. It is a little overpriced in my opinion, but I think it's worth it. It looks great with this dress. Oh yeah, another thing about the belt: It doesn't come bent at the waist, like you see mine is. It comes as a flat bar. I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to look, but I bent it over my thigh to fit my waist better because I couldn't stand seeing the elastic gap at the ends of the straight metal bar...it's hard to describe. But the thing to take away from this is that it looks so much better when it's moulded to your shape.

One last thing about the (fabulous) dress. Do not buy if you don't own a nude bra (which you should anyway!!!). The lace is see through, and though you can't tell from the picture (thanks to a nude bra) the top of the dress actually cuts across almost mid bra. In other words, if you weren't wearing a bra you'd be seeing an indecent amount of cleavage. And the back is sheer lace as well. Use your best class-girl judgement. That's all I'm sayin'.

Enjoy the rest of you day!

LOOK-ALIKES: ASOS CURVE Rainbow Maxi Dress

So this Sunday's Look-Alikes post is going to be a little different than ones of Toasted Crackerz past - but it's also one I am so stoked about it is a little ridiculous! Instead of focusing on a low-end item and a high-end item that look similar, I'm doing a....wait for it....movie look-alike! That's right folks, I'm showcasing a plus-size garment that strongly resembles a movie costume. That may sound like a bad thing (who wants to look like they walked off the set of Lord of the Rings, right?---um, me!), but trust me, when you see the below images you're gonna' like what you see. Below, you'll see the garment that started this whole thing:

ASOS CURVE Rainbow Maxi Dress With Necklace Trim, ASOS, $110.31

...Does this look familiar? Anybody, ringin' any bells? Well, if you are as much of a Star Wars fan as I am - well, really I'm just a fan of Padmé Amidala's wardrobe - you might have a leg up on the others. When I saw this dress I IMMEDIATELY was taken back to the first time I watched the scene when Padmé and Anakin Skywalker were at her summer house and you saw her wearing this gorgeous/amazing gown (called the Rainbow Lake Gown by fans).

10. Olive Epaulette Crew Jumper, Dorothy Perkins, $29.00

I like to shop around at a lot of different online retailers when I have down time. Some people may call this and addictive / shop-o-holic behavior, which....it might be. I don't really see it that way because for me it is what I do to relax. Some people read. Some people take naps. Some people take bubble baths. I happen to love browsing page after page of new merchandise. Of course, this does lead to the problem of me seeing some AMAZING one-of-a-kind piece that I feel I must have IMMEDIATELY! This is my lust list, where I artfully arrange in a picture all the items I would kill someone for (just kidding...maybe. :P) You might be thinking, "....that looks more like Fall stuff." And you would be right about that! I'm in a Fall state of mind! I've never really gotten into Summer/Spring stuff, but Fall is the best. The rich colors! The sumptuous fabrics! The layering!!! So, yes. I would like most of these things with the anticipation of wearing them in the Fall.

OOTD: Shades of Neutral

Toasted Crackerz: Plus-Size Fashion Blog
Ivory Linen Button Jacket, Dorothy Perkins, (OLD) (Similar here, here, and here)
Mossimo® Women's High Low Printed Tank, Target, $19.99

ASOS CURVE A-Line Skirt, ASOS, (SALE) $18.67
Mossimo Supply Co. Voneta Studded Tuxedo Flat, Target, $19.99

This has to be one of my favorite outfits in a long time. Isn't it weird (and incredibly annoying) how you can spend hours planning the "perfect" outfit in you head, yet the ones you throw on literally minutes before you leave the house are the ones that turn out the best? This is one such outfit. My dad told me he was going to the supermarket to pick up some things and so I ran upstairs to find an outfit that could deal the the 90+ degree heat wave we've been having.

I've been wanting to find a suitable outfit for this tank top from Target for a while. It's a little long on me, but I'm not sure if I want to hem it so...when it doubt, tuck it in! And yes, I'm wearing the skirt from ASOS Curve again. Expect to see it many more times. :D The blazer is great. It's cream and it's linen, so it was practically made with Spring/Summer written all over it. I like how the sleeves are 3/4 and ruched. I've always admired women who could pull off the casual "oh-I-just-rolled-up-my-blazer-sleeves-in-the-most-effortless-and-chic-way - No big deal" look. The only problem is that when I roll up blazer sleeves they get incredibly TIGHT and cut off the circulation below the elbow (I wish I were kidding). This blazer is nice because the effortless rolled up look is sewn into the design!

From head to toe, I love this look! I'll definitely be recycling it into the future. Probably the near future...at work...tomorrow. :P

City Walk Panama Hat, Cuyana, $58.00
Waterfall Wrap, Forever21+, (OLD!)
ASOS Maxi Dress With Cut Out Detail, ASOS, (SOLD OUT) (Similar herehere and here)

Every year, as far back as my memory of living in our current house goes, we've celebrated the Fourth of July. Not in the typical way of most Americans with extended families over, a backyard barbecue, and fire-works (though I did petition my mother for sparklers this year...and failed). Are you wondering what the heck is wrong with my family yet? Instead, my sister and her husband came over, and we had our annual indoor "picnic" of sorts.

I'll be honest, we've tried the eat-outdoors-and-smile-and-laugh-as-we-enjoy-our-meal thing, but let's get real, shall we? Eating outdoors sucks. The wind. The hot sun. The bugs (*shudder*). It's simply not glamorous, darling. So we eat our barbecue food inside, and I'd say we're all the more happier for it. My dad makes hot dogs on the grill. That's about as barbecue-y as we get, actually. The real tradition is in the food we eat.

When I was little my mom let me make "menu" of all the foods we'd be having for our 4th of July dinner. I was in to scrapbooking then (yes, as a child!) and made it all fancy with different papers and scroll-y text. We've stopped making fancy menus since then, but we always plan to eat the same foods every year: Sweet corn on the cob, potato salad, hot dogs, macaroni (for my sister and I - it never gets old!), watermelon, and baked beans. To drink we have tangy lemonade and my dad always - ALWAYS - has to have his unsweetened ice tea.

From the Back...
Hello again! Here's a little somethin'-somethin' I wore to work last week...I have to say it's an outfit that seems to work better in real life than it does on the not-so-silver screen. Here it looks a little rumpled, but I got 3 compliments from separate people so it can't be that bad...right? Haha, whatever. I still like it!

Now, you might be looking at this pic and thinking, "what's going on with the back, there?" If you look to the left you can see it even better. Well, what's going on is that when I ordered this top from ASOS Curve, it looked like it hit the model mid-thigh. On me, it is a dress. Literally. I could belt it and wear it as a dress. I realize I'm no giant, but come on! The picture is COMPLETELY misleading. Lucky for ASOS Curve though, I love the top anyway. It's made out of a nice thin cotton (nude undergarments are a must!) which was perfect for the hot muggy day we were having when these photos were taken. I kind of like the tail sticking out...my mom wasn't so sure, haha. Looking at these pics now it almost looks like I'm wearing an apron over a dress. I might pin the tail of the shirt up in the future so it doesn't show...or I might not. HAHA, I'm a Rebel!!!

LOOK-ALIKES: ASOS Curve Skinny Trousers in Colorblock

(Sorry I was out of commission for the last few days. I just finished Spring term. I should resume my regular posting schedule shortly. Thanks!  --L)

This fine Sunday's Look-Alikes feature is brought to you by ASOS Curve! I love me some ASOS Curve. They are unquestionably at the forefront of trendy/edgy Plus-size fashion. I got hooked on Asos.com a while ago when I came across a link on a blog I frequent. It was fashion at first sight! Over the years, I've bought an obscene amount from ASOS and ASOS Curve. Seriously, I should be in some secret VIP club by now! The only qualm I have with ASOS Curve is that the clothing items can be pretty darn spendy (in my opinion some of the knit pieces are WAY overpriced), like these awesome and fashion-forward color-block trousers I came across the other day:

ASOS Curve Skinny Trousers in Colorblock, ASOS, $54.30

Now, you may be thinking, "$54.30 for a pair of plus-size pants - She's cray cray if she doesn't think that's a steal!!!" You may be right; while I feel 54 bucks is a bit cray cray to pay for pants, I can recognize that it isn't as bad as it COULD be. So I ask you all this: would you rather pay $54.30 and admit to yourselves that the price COULD be worse? Or would you rather hop your booty over to Forever21+ and buy these bad boys that look almost the same for HALF THE PRICE!!!???:

Contrast Colored Skinnies, Forever21+, $27.80

Yes, the Forever21+ pants don't have the cool zipper welt pockets like the ASOS Curve pair does. And yes, the color of the F21+ pants are more of a brown-ish green (which I completely understand if people don't happen to like. I happen to.) But at $27.80 I think they are a much better (read: WISER) investment choice seeing as the color-block pant trend, like these, are bound to come to a bitter end within a few seasons. Why spend over $50 dollars when a completely affordable plus-size option (read: VERY RARELY DOES THIS HAPPEN) is available. Think on that...

OOTD: Feeling Spacey

(First, I would just like to send a shout-out to my amazeballs sister on her 24th birthday! She's awesome and everything anyone should want in a sister. Love you sissy! :P)

Toasted Crackerz: Plus-Size Fashion Blog
ASOS Top with Peplum in Space Print, ASOS, (SALE!) $33.09
Dome Stud Hoops, F21, $3.80
Mossimo Ankle Skinny Pant (Fit 3) in Black, Target (SOLD OUT) (Similar here and here)

Sorry for the poor quality in all of my pictures! I normally wouldn't even consider putting them up on my blog, but I want to be consistent about posting OOTD posts, and it was an amazing outfit. I was planning on taking better pictures in my usual spot, but I had to walk home this day and I was tired and hot, so it was either these crappy pics or no pics at all. And like I said: it was an awesome outfit so I felt like crappy pics would have to do.

This was the first time I wore this top from ASOS. When I saw it was on sale a while ago I knew I had to have it. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find plus size clothes in a space/cosmic/galaxy print. DO YOU?!?!? Well, it's really hard so I thought even if I had to jam my back fat into this bad boy I was going to make it work. :P

Luckily, with the right bra and compression underwear (ooooh, sexy! <<< not.), I got into the top without it looking half bad! I paired it with slim black trousers from Target to offset the largeness of the peplum. I took these photos  just before I took everything off and put on stretchy pants and a tank, so you don't get to see the wig I wore this day. Yes, I have "normal" hair, but my hair is so curly and wild sometimes and I'm WAY too lazy to do all that blow drying and straightening nonsense that I simply pop on a wig from time to time and go on my merry way. It seems weird to me that some people think it's weird to wear wigs recreationally, but I think they make a lot of sense if you want to change your hair up regularly. But who knows? Maybe it's just a black person thing (yes, I can say that because I'm black...partly.)

Below are some detail shots. I LOOOOVE the earrings from F21 (seriously, only $3.80!)! They are so ghetto fabulous. Big and gaudy (that has become my unofficial motto) just like me! :D

Eyelet Lace Ballet Flat, Charlotte Russe, $22.50

French Connection Long Drop Earring, ASOS (SOLD OUT) (You can buy them here for $15.55)

Hello, all! This will be just a quick OOTD post - what I wore to Mother's Day brunch with the parents.  My mom isn't very picky or sentimental, so we just went to our favorite vintage-diner-themed restaurant, Terry's Diner. I got a delicious Eggs Benedict (my favorite!) and just about licked the plate clean, as you can see in the pic to the left.
After that, we took a quick detour to Jerry's so Mom could pick up one of her favorite plants, a "Blush of Dawn" fuchsia. I snapped a quick pic of one of MY favorite plants, a lilac! It smelled so good!

Anyway, that's all I have for today. Happy mother's day mom! I love you!
